For the past 15-years, the Minnesota State Fair has reached out to a local artist to commission a piece that embodies and defines the Great Minnesota Get Together. The prints, sold in limited addition every year at the Fair, have become a collector’s item.
This year, Saint Paul paper collage artist Kristi Abbott created the 2018 commemorative artwork. Kristi spent her life traveling between Sydney, Australia and Saint Paul and settled in Minnesota a few years ago. She went to her first Minnesota State Fair when she was 4, but because it been many years since she’d visited the Fairgrounds, Kristi went seven times last year to prepare for this piece. Her work uses color, pattern and texture through a combination of papers, adhesives and embellishment materials. This piece contains more than 50 hidden images representing all parts of the State Fair.
The commemorative poster, a limited number of signed prints and other merchandise featuring the art are available to buy online, as well as during the fair at State FairWear Gift Shops, Bargain Book and State Fair Poster Carts on the fairgrounds. Proceeds support the Minnesota State Fair Foundation.
