Back in the day, the Food Pyramid was the guideline that doctors used for guiding their patients on proper diet recommendations. Now, the pyramid is a thing of the past but doctors are still in favor of a balanced diet. Now, their concerns though have shifted to screen time and sugar. 1. Talking to Kids About Weight
- Create an environment of support
- Use words like “unhealthy weight” instead of “obese”
- Talk about growing into a healthy body
2. Promote Healthy Weight
- Recruit family as agents of change
- Limit screen time
- Avoid snacking around meals
- Limit sugary drinks
3. Use the 5–2–1–0 Strategy
- 5 fruits & Veggies a day
- 2 hours of screen time or less per day
- 1 hour of activity each day
- 0 sweetened beverages
