Jennifer Lopez recently made headlines for butting into discussions between her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez and his ex-wife. How should divorced people handle third parties? Jodi and Shannon from Terzich and Ort stopped by to explain how it works.
New boyfriends or girlfriends often want to be involved in discussions between exes. Others like parents or pastors or adult children can also get involved. And they often mean well! But exes should ask themselves one question: does this person help or hurt the process?
Jodi and Shannon recommend that parties make sure their third parties aren’t interfering, taking messages or getting involved in the process. They also shouldn’t attend mediation (but court appearances are okay – those are public, after all). Anything you can do to make the process smoother would help, even if that means telling a new partner they need to back off.
