About a year ago we met Maddie Lu Carlos. She wowed us on the show with her beautiful cupcakes and her yummy cookie dough in a cup. But her work and her story doesn’t stop there. In this Good Company, Twin Cities Live reporter Kelli Hanson takes us to Something Sweet by Maddie Lu, to find out why her success tastes so sweet.
Since opening her shop in Coon Rapids, the Food Network has come calling. She competed on Season 3 of the Holiday Baking Championship. She handled the pressure of television, and she’s also handled the pressure of opening her second shop at the young age of 23. Macarons by Maddie Lu opened at Mall of America in December. In her first month at MOA, Maddie sold nearly 50,000 macaroons. While she doesn’t know if Macaroons will replace the current cupcake craze, she does think Macaroons will be big.
Maddie hopes to one day have a food truck or several more shops around the Twin Cities.
