“Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” was a 1967 Academy Award nominated film that starred Sidney Poitier and Katharine Hepburn. Now, there’s a play based on the screenplay and it’s on stage at the Guthrie Theater. The comedy is directed by Timothy Bond. And while the story dates back to the 60’s, there are still relevant issues that hit home today. While there will be some similarities to the film, don’t expect it to be the exact same.
The story is about Matt and Christina Drayton. They live in San Francisco in the late 60’s. Their daughter comes home with Dr. John Prentice, an African American doctor who is eleven years older than their daughter. They’re in love and want the family’s blessing. The show is being called a thought provoking comedy.
“Guess who’s coming to dinner” runs through May 27th at the Guthrie Theater. To learn more and to buy tickets, click here.
